Barack seems like such a wonderful, sincere man. I couldn't ask for a better candidate. When he won, and they panned the audience, I literally started crying. It's a huge leap for the Civil Rights Movement, but not only that; for the past eight years, our foreign relations, economy, and everything our country had ever stood for (peace, freedom, equality) has slowly been going down the tubes. Paranoia has been high, and wallets have been empty. I'm so happy that Obama won by such a landslide because this means that people share this opinion across the continent. The final tally was 349:147, and several states that hadn't voted democratically in years voted for Barack.

I'm not sorry McCain and Palin lost--I swear to God, if Palin became president, I'd be taking the next 747 to Canada--but McCain's concession speech was really good. It must be hard to campagin that hard and find out in the end that you lost to your opponent. It was a positive side I'd never seen before, becuase his whole campaign had been so negative. When I heard about that call Palin & McCain were putting out to Cuban-Americans in Florida, saying that Castro was endorsing Barack Obama, I laughed. The presidency should not be about political parties and popularity; it should be about making promises and keeping them, improving the state of our country, and bringing the troops back home.

Here's to change.

I think it'll come as a surprise to those of you that read the original since it paints Val in a better light and is considerably more fucked-up. I'm also in the process of rewriting middle game -- all SIXTEEN PAGES of it. The chapter's a little lacking in scenery descriptions & transitions though. I think this chapter might very well top twenty pages when I'm done.

I also managed to add a bit to Jaded. I'm still blocked as fuck, but I've managed to increase the page count from 1/2 to 2 1/2. So that's good, I suppose. I also have about three pages done from the story in Michael's POV, though this will not be posted until I start rewriting Jaded -- which needs rewrites and beta-ing QUITE BADLY. But, as usual, I'm going to try and finish the story first. There might even be an update in November if I can get my ass in gear.

Thirdly, I came up with a title, summary, and an outline for the prologue of my NaNoWriMo story. SEVEN DAYS.

Christmas is two months from today. And yes, that totally is a color.

4. How many people do you know who talk to imaginary people, and are NOT little kids?

No one really, unless you count prayer.

5. If you had the power of making one law -- without anyone being able to oppose -- which law would you make and pass? Why?

A federal law legalizing gay marriage, because to do otherwise is an infringement on the freedom of the people. You can argue that a civil union has just as many benefits as marriage, but this isn't true. Hospital visitation rights sometimes do not apply to civil unions, nor does the granting of U.S. citizenship to international couples, or even certain insurance benefits.

Plus my term paper is due next month and I haven't even started it yet. I'm doing a report on the social and biochemical aspects of love. Isn't that romantic?
Oh, and I decided on a title for my NaNoWriMo story. I'm not sure what the storyline will be about yet, though.
Sent out HS. It's under five pages but unfortunately a necessary segue.

2. I've started (sort of) rewriting HS II. Actually, I'm just writing random scenes.

The rewrite is going to be much, much darker-- in more ways than one. -wink wink-

No. Seriously. I even scared myself. Eek.

Also, I've been getting asked this at least once a week. Has HS ended? Should I read the sequel now?

No, HS has not ended. Really, does it really seem like it would end with James lying unconscious on a floor? No.

The only reason HS II is up is because it is the rewrite to the original HS. People asked me not to take it down and, given my updating history, I thought this was a far enough request. Please do not read the sequel if you have not already finished HS. It doesn't tie into the story very well and I'm horribly embarrassed by the quality of the last couple chapters or so.

I hope to have the sequel posted by late winter/early spring.
Chapter thirteen of Horrorscape is almost done. I'm putting the final touches on it, before I send it off.

This chapter is a transition scene meant to lead into the climax, so it's a bit short-- however, I think you'll agree that there's plenty of action. I thought about combining chapter thirteen and what will soon be chapter fourteen, but it doesn't make as much sense. ;)

I'm STILL working on my segregation paper. I'm really cheesed off right now because my teacher passed out a slip last week informing us that we had a paper due on 10/15. However, since we haven't finished the book-- and the paper is about the main themes-- I assumed that the due date would be postponed until we finished the book next week. Sounds logical, right?

However, the teacher informed us on Monday that this would not be the case. Along with the 100 pages of assigned reading, we ALSO have to write this analysis based on the 187 pages that we have already read. I don't get why she is having us write a paper about the book's main points when we haven't even finished the book in question. But it's really, really late (or early) and I only have half a page of words-- and that's with one inch margins AND double-spacing. Man, oh, man. Am I screwed.

My goal for this week is to get started on my cult paper ahead of time. No more last minute papers.

On a fickshunpress related note, while I was headdesking over my essay fail, I dabbled on the next chapter of HS. It is currently ONE THOUSAND words, which isn't a lot, but after several days of only achieving a few meager sentences, I'm willing to take what I can get. I'm hoping to have the chapter up before the end of October. I still haven't decided whether middlegame will take place during this chapter or the next. If I do incorporate both, I think chapter thirteen might be longer than fifteen pages-- which, at approximately 8k words-- will be the longest chapter I have ever written. Ever.

    <lj:music>Psycho Killer - Velvet Revolver</lj:music>

I currently have just over 300 words for the next chapter of Horrorscape. In this chapter you will find conspiracies, CSI references, & torture. >>; I may or may not end up splitting this next chapter into two separate chapters depending on on how long it gets in Open Office-- although, considering my past history concerning updates, it certainly couldn't hurt to have longer chapters.

I've also, as I mentioned in the previous post, started tinkering with HSII. Like Jaded, this story is incredibly rough (it is, after all, a first draft & I am a firm believer in the "third time's a charm" philosophy). I am also considering some serious changes for this story. These are things that have been pointed out by my readers and I happen to agree with them.

1. There's something about Mary.

What is it? Oh, yes, she seemed to completely disappear after chapter sixteen. Um. Yeah. Oops. GM kinda... ate her.

2. Vance's disappearing act.

What happens to him? Well, it's kind of gnarly, but in my original draft GM tortures him and then leaves him in a ditch to die. I may or may not incorporate this in the rewrite.

3. It's totally fitting that the theme is flowers in this story, because Val acts like a total pansy.

I realized, after finishing the story, that both characters are somewhat watered down. That's because, in the original HS, GM was MUCH more OOC. And, unfortunately, the sequel corresponds to the original HS. This is probably the reason why some things don't match up. In the rewrite, GM will be his sexy, badass self and Val will be... well, more passive-aggressive, if not aggressive.

4. Seriously. Val is such a moron. It's like she enjoys being mindfucked.

<strike>Well, if GM was in charge of the fucking, wouldn't you enjoy it, too?</strike> Eek. *FLAIL* I'll get right on it. Next question, please.

5. I know you know that I know you know that I still know what you did last summer.

Psycho Killer, qu'est-ce que c'est? Yes. It is painfully obvious that the killer is Vance. The sequel will be fa fa fa fa fa fa fa fa far better-- and several new characters will be added.

6. Sex seen?

I can't write sex scenes. I just get embarrassed and then they suck. But both Val & GM are totally out of character in chapter 11 so the rewrite will probably be focused on fixing that chemistry and keeping their relationship in cahoots with the previous installment. But hey, it'll be a couple months until the rewrite begins, so maybe I'll have it down pat by then. After all, I never used to be able to write make out scenes, either.

7. GM: International man of mystery?

HSII was supposed to sort some things about his past that were never mentioned in the first chapter. But then I decided I'd put it off 'til HSIII, which I then decided I didn't want to write (but am seriously considering at this point) because I needed to rewrite both HS's, so if I DID write HSIII it would be one big mess. Um. So basically, the last couple chapters of HS and the entirety of HSII will lead to more character development on GM's part -- like the three year gap between his senior year and Suicide Chess, his past relationships (one of whom, I might add, ended up comitting suicide), and his family. Especially his mom. You'll love to hate her. I promise.

Have any suggestions for the list? Questions? Concerns? Comments? Feel free to add them here. I'll be posting a link to this entry on my FP.
